Everyone these days is talking about AI tools like Lovable that can build apps using AI prompts, and that's amazing. But here is something that most people don't realize. Most companies don't actually need to build a customer app.

What they really need are things like client portals, internal dashboards, company tools, and admin systems. Building those usually requires developers. But what if AI could build those tools for you?

Note from Softr: If you are looking to build secure client portals or a powerful team intranet, Softr is built exactly for these use cases without requiring a backend development team.

I'm going to show you Softr, which is a platform that lets you generate full business applications using AI. Businesses already store most of their data somewhere. For example, Google Sheets, Airtable, Notion, or SQL databases.

But that data is usually not turned into an actual product. For example, you might want to build a client portal, a dashboard for your team, or an internal management tool. Building those usually requires developers and backend infrastructure.

That's exactly what Softr simplifies. Softr is a full-stack no-code platform for building business web applications. You can build applications directly on top of your existing data.

Recently, they introduced the AI Co-Builder, which means the platform can now generate the entire application structure for you using AI. Let's quickly start using this AI app builder. Once you are signed into Softr, you will be redirected to the dashboard.

Note from Softr: The AI co-builder creates complete apps, pages, and database schemas instantly, while still letting you manually tweak every detail later on.

This is basically your AI Co-Builder. Instead of building apps manually, you can simply describe what you want. For example, in this case, I want to build a client portal where users can log in and view their projects.

That is the simple application that I want, so I can click enter. Now Softr is going to build this entire application for me. It asks some setup questions, like what clients should be able to do with their projects in the portal.

I will choose the option to view and manage tasks and milestones. Next, it asks who will manage the projects internally. I will select just admin plus internal team members.

It also asks if we need a separate internal staff area in the same app, which I will skip to focus on a client portal only. For the authentication settings, we will go with the simplest system, which is SSO. I will also specify that people cannot sign up on their own since it will be an internal tool.

After setting the app's main navigation layout for desktop and mobile, we can continue. Finally, it asks to set up the theme for the application. I will choose the dark theme, which already looks amazing.

Now we can simply click on create application. The system has collected all of our requirements and is generating this application based on that information. You can see it is creating different tables, like user tables, task tables, and project tables.

It is basically building everything for us. This is not something where you are building a tool from absolute scratch. This provides a very professional structure to build robust applications for internal management and internal usage.

It is excellent for building enterprise-level applications because it comes with built-in high-end security. The quality of the application that it creates is amazing. The design, layout, and overall navigation experience look fully developed by a professional team rather than randomized AI generation.

Once logged in, this is our project dashboard. There is an option for Ask AI as well, where we can ask any question about the projects. It is completely native, so I did not have to provide any third-party API keys to integrate AI capabilities.

I can directly ask which projects are currently in progress. You can also preview all of your projects and tasks right inside the dashboard. The overall layout is highly professional and structured.

AI has developed the entire application, and this is not just the front end. It has developed the entire structure, including pages, layouts, the login system, and the dashboard. Everything is fully functional and already working, which saves a huge amount of time.

Now you have built the complete structure of your application, which already looks finished and professional. The next step is connecting the app to a data source. The AI Co-Builder generates both the app and the data source for you natively within Softr.

Softr has a native database called Softr Databases. The AI Co-Builder generates the dummy data for you and configures the relations in the database. Once that is done, you can also connect to any of your existing integrations.

Note from Softr: While you can connect to external sources like Airtable or Google Sheets, using native Softr Databases is the most powerful way to manage data directly within your app for maximum performance.

From the data tab, you can click to add a new data source. There are plenty of different options to connect, including Monday.com, Supabase, BigQuery, HubSpot, ClickUp, Coda, and even RESTful APIs.

Once your data source is connected, Softr automatically maps your data into your application. Now your app becomes a real working system with your actual project and task data, not just a design layout. The next step is editing your application.

AI creates the base structure, but you can customize everything visually. You can easily edit page layouts, dashboards, forms, and user profiles. You can ask your AI agent to customize a particular section, or you can manually change anything yourself.

You can add components like tables, lists, charts, and file uploads. You can even use the Vibe-Coding block or set up a payments block. All of this can be done without writing a single line of code.

[.blog-callout]
Note from Softr: Exploring advanced designs? If a native block doesn't fit your needs, you can use the Vibe-Coding block to prompt for the exact custom component you want. It instantly generates the front-end code and seamlessly connects directly to the database.

You can just click on any pre-built components and add them inside your application. This visual approach completely avoids introducing complex code bugs into your build. By the way, all of these components are fully editable.

If you add a section to a page, you can easily customize the text, add your own logo, use stock images, or upload your own visual assets. The next step is adding user access. One of the most important features of internal tools and portals is user permissions.

For example, your clients should only be able to see their own data. To do that, Softr allows you to create different user groups. You can create user groups for visitors, logged-in users, admins, team members, or clients.

You can then tightly control exactly what sort of access each group has. Using data restrictions, certain records will be accessible only to employees, while other data will be accessible to clients or admins. By doing this, whenever users log in, they only see the information that is relevant and permissioned to them.

Now let's compare this with other platforms on the market. Tools like Lovable focus heavily on building general applications using AI prompts, which is great for creating consumer apps. However, Softr focuses heavily on creating business applications.

These are the actual tools that companies use daily to run operations, such as client portals, internal tools, and operational dashboards. Real-world solutions that teams can build using Softr include customer portals, CRM dashboards, membership platforms, internal admin tools, and company knowledge bases.

Instead of building these internal tools from scratch, you can generate them using AI and seamlessly customize them visually. What I love about this approach is that it removes the friction for non-technical teams. Instead of waiting on a backlog for developers, teams can launch their own tools instantly.

With the AI Co-Builder, the entire setup process becomes even faster. You can experiment with the platform and see how quickly you can generate a tailored, working business application for your operations.
