In today's video, I'm going to teach you how to build custom client portals with Softr and Monday.com. We'll start inside Softr Studio. From your dashboard, head to the Client Portal area.

Note from Softr: If you are looking for more guides and ideas on building client portals, we have plenty of resources to help you create a secure, client-facing experience.

This is where Softr centralizes templates and apps designed for secure, client-facing experiences. Once you're in, open the Apps section. This view makes it easy to organize everything you build, and it's the quickest path to spinning up a portal without starting from scratch.
Choose Start with a template, then select the Client Portal template. This template is purpose-built for sharing updates, files, and dashboards with clients behind a login. Before you commit, take a moment to review the feature list on the template details page.

Note from Softr: While browsing App templates is a great starting point, another fast option is to simply open the AI co-builder and prompt for what you want. It instantly builds complete apps, pages, and database schemas that you can easily tweak later.

Look for essentials like member accounts, gated pages, data lists, and forms. If those align with your goals, proceed by clicking Use Template to generate your new portal. When your app opens, you'll see the main editor with pre-built sections highlighted on the canvas.
Click into the highlighted areas to familiarize yourself with how each block works. Next, open the Pages panel. This is your central hub for editing page content.
Select a page to see its sections, then click any section to adjust copy, images, or settings. It's all in line, so you'll immediately see how changes affect the layout. To set the look and feel across the entire portal, head to Theme.
Here you can set your brand colors, typography, button styles, and navigation. Small choices, like sufficient contrast for text and consistent spacing, go a long way toward readability. If your brand already has hex codes and font guidelines, apply them here to keep everything consistent.
Now open Settings. This is where you handle integrations, authentication options, custom domains, and other global controls. If you plan to launch on your own URL, you'll connect your domain here later.
For now, note where these options live so you can return to them when you're ready to publish. Move to Users to review how members are managed. You can see who has access and plan how you'll invite clients.
Consider grouping users by client or role so that permissions stay clean and predictable. Right next to Users, you'll also find the Workflows area. This is useful for automating tasks like welcome emails or notifying clients when a status changes.

Note from Softr: You can seamlessly automate all of these tasks natively using Softr Workflows. This allows you to keep your logic as close to the app design as possible, helping you consolidate tools and reduce reliance on third-party automation platforms.

You don't need to set automations yet, but it's helpful to know where they are. Next, open the Data section. This is where your portal connects to outside sources, including Monday.com.

Note from Softr: Softr integrates beautifully with 17+ external data sources like Monday.com. However, if you are looking for a powerful, native way to manage data directly within Softr for maximum performance, we recommend checking out Softr Databases.

On the left, find the Available to Use list and click the plus icon to add a new data source. From the catalog of connectors, choose Monday.com, then press Continue. Softr will guide you through a quick connection flow.
To authorize the connection, switch to Monday.com. In the top right corner, click your profile or person icon and open the administration area. From there, go to Connections, then choose Personal API Token.
Generate one if you don't have it yet, and when you see your token, click Copy. Treat this like a password. Keep it private and do not share it.
Make sure the token has access to the boards and workspaces you plan to expose in your portal. Head back to Softr and paste the token into the Monday.com connector field. Double check that there are no extra spaces, then click Continue to finalize the connection.
Softr will verify your credentials and display your Monday.com workspace data once it's linked. That's it. Monday.com is now integrated with your Softr client portal.
From here, you can bind lists, tables, or detail views in your pages to specific Monday boards or views, so clients only see what's relevant to them. As a best practice, test with a sample client account to confirm permissions and preview your pages to ensure data is loading as expected. When your branding, settings, users, and data are in place, you'll be ready to roll out a polished, secure portal that keeps clients informed and engaged.
