Therapist Directory

Replaced fragmented search processes with a centralized, deeply searchable digital directory that matches queer and trans individuals in Canada with mental health professionals who share their lived experiences. Features a multi-faceted search interface (filtering by province, language, specific focus, and therapeutic framework), rich practitioner profiles, a community resource hub, and an educational therapy guide.

The Problem
Finding an affirming, culturally competent therapist with shared lived experiences can be a daunting and exhausting process for the LGBTQ2S+ (queer & trans) community. Historically, individuals seeking help in Canada had to piece together information from fragmented forums, outdated listservs, and generalized medical directories that offered little insight into a practitioner’s actual intersections, values, or safe frameworks.

The Solution
I designed and developed CQTT (Canada’s Queer & Trans Therapist Directory), a comprehensive matching platform dedicated to connecting queer and trans searchers with therapists who hold lived experience within the community. The application bridges the gap by offering an intuitive, stigma-free interface where users can find tailored, intersectional mental health care based on deep filtering.

Key Features:

Intuitive landing & identity-centered onboarding: Warm, welcoming, and inclusive copy paired with a straightforward "Find Care" navigation pathway.

Highly Custom Filtering & Search: A granular search sidebar that enables users to filter by provincial jurisdiction, in-person vs. virtual (Venue), languages spoken, specialized focuses (like neurodivergence, relationship structures, gender identity exploration), and therapeutic frameworks (e.g., anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, somatic).

Specialized Bio Cards & Detailed Profiles: Rich, individualized therapist cards that foreground credentials, therapeutic approaches, lived-experience markers (e.g., "queer and disabled"), and detailed tags to set clear expectations for care.

Glossary & Educational Resource Hub ("Learn about therapy"): To demystify mental health care, I built an interactive community resource hub that features accessible illustrated guides—covering therapy qualifications, insurance policies, and an exhaustive "A–Z Therapy Jargon & Glossary" of modalities.

By prioritizing transparency, safe navigation, and inclusive UX, CQTT reduces barrier-to-care fatigue and creates a lifeline for underrepresented individuals seeking therapeutic support.
