Custom Learning Management System

A complete staff training platform built from the ground up for the Center for Climate Crime Analysis, replacing scattered spreadsheets and manual tracking with one branded portal and a single source of truth.

The challenge. The organisation needed every staff member, across multiple countries and roles, to complete the right compliance and onboarding training, with proof of completion and a clear view of who was up to date. Doing this by hand didn't scale, and off-the-shelf LMS tools were expensive and rigid.

What was built. A custom LMS with two connected experiences. On the learner side, staff log into a clean, branded portal where they see exactly the courses they need, work through video lessons and downloadable resources, take a short quiz, and earn a certificate on completion. A course catalogue lets them browse and self-enrol in optional training, favourite courses, and organise them into personal playlists. On the admin side, the training team builds courses and lessons, sets who each course applies to, creates quizzes, and monitors a live compliance dashboard, all without touching code or spreadsheets.

Standout features. Role-based auto-enrolment signs people up for required training the moment they join a role, so nothing is enrolled by hand. A course only counts as complete when both the lessons and the quiz are passed, and that definition stays consistent across the learner view and the admin dashboard. Certificates, playlists, favourites, drag-to-reorder, and a filterable compliance dashboard with CSV export round out the experience.

Technical approach. Airtable holds all training data as the single source of truth, Softr delivers the portal, and the learner and admin surfaces are hand-coded as custom React blocks for a fully bespoke look and feel, including code-drawn course covers, an integrated quiz flow, and instant custom tab navigation. Native Airtable automations handle enrolment in the background, and the whole system is documented so the client can run it independently.
