The Problem

THE BOARD is a collective of senior experts who have helped build and scale some of the most recognized brands in the world. Brands come to THE BOARD to access that expertise through fractional or project-based engagements. As a Community-first collective, it serves both its members and clients at the same time—which is what makes it so distinctive, and its operations so complex.

As its membership grew, the tools supporting operations weren't keeping up. There was a member directory and community app, but neither was branded or flexible enough to reflect THE BOARD's evolving needs. Client tracking happened in a separate CRM, and intake forms were spread across platforms and systems.

They needed a solution that could:

  • Centralize data, member interactions, and operational workflows
  • Deliver a dynamic, filterable, fully branded member directory
  • Combine membership operations, community experience, and client opportunity tracking in one system
  • Replace disconnected tools without requiring custom development
  • Reflect their Community-first brand and values

The Solution

THE BOARD partnered with Softr partner Coconut Breeze Media to rebuild their infrastructure. The project began with a member directory, then expanded into something much larger as the team mapped the components they needed, from data management to workflow automation—all within Softr.

The new platform powers two distinct experiences: On the community side, members log in to a fully branded digital home base, where they can browse the member directory, explore fractional opportunity postings, and access events.

On the operations side, the team navigates a private dashboard within the same system. User groups and permissions ensure each audience sees only what they need.

Behind the scenes, the platform brings together databases, apps, forms, and workflow automation in one system:

  • Data management: Softr Databases serve as the single source of truth for all member data, deals, and operational records.
  • Custom membership application, approval, onboarding, and offboarding workflows: Members apply through a Softr Form, and the entire journey through to acceptance is managed in one place.
  • A searchable member directory: The directory is dynamic, filterable, and fully branded to reflect THE BOARD's identity, so members can easily search and connect with each other. 
  • An opportunities board for active fractional roles: A board that gives members direct access to apply for open roles.
  • Event and programming management: A centralized calendar keeping members connected to THE BOARD's events, plus a knowledge library to store event recordings and other resources.
  • Client opportunity pipeline tracking and contact management (CRM): Business development and community operations are now housed in one system with multiple dashboards to help the admin team manage opportunities for members and contacts.
  • Workflow automation: Softr Workflows replaced third-party automation tools to simplify day-to-day operations. Workflows include notifying the admin team when new applications are submitted and changing member statuses.

Because Softr is continuously evolving, the team grew alongside the platform. As new features launched, the team could put them to use right away without rebuilding from scratch (like adding Ask AI to the member directory to make search easier).


The Impact

Instead of managing four separate subscriptions and switching between different platforms for CRM, client management, community, and forms, the internal team at THE BOARD now operates from a single system powered by Softr. 

Members have direct access to monetization opportunities, peer discovery, and a growing knowledge library, leading to higher engagement and retention. Internally, the team has clearer visibility into member applications, engagement, and growth, with workflows that are easier to manage and automate.

What began as a directory project became the foundation that THE BOARD's growing community deserved—custom software that empowers senior executives to shape the future of fractional work.
