From the partner
Rodney Smith Jr. is the founder of a national nonprofit that encourages kids aged 8 to 17 to mow 50 lawns for free for the elderly, disabled, single parents, and veterans in their communities. What started as one small act of kindness in 2015 has grown into a movement with over 5,000 kids participating across all 50 U.S. states.
But with that growth came complexity. Submissions were arriving via text message, photos were difficult to organize, and tracking kids’ progress through the 50 Yard Challenge was becoming unsustainable. Rodney needed a structured, scalable platform—one that still felt personal and aligned with the spirit of service.
We worked closely with him to design and build a digital experience that does just that. Kids can now:
- Register through a mobile-friendly portal
- Upload photos of each lawn they complete
- Automatically track their progress across 50 lawns
The system:
- Awards T-shirts at each milestone
- Shows live leaderboards, including regional rankings
- Generates community service letters students can use in school and college applications
We also built a Hall of Fame for kids who finish the full challenge, and a powerful back-end for Rodney to manage submissions, review activity, and stay on brand.
With this platform, Raising Men & Women is not only saving time—it’s creating a more meaningful, connected experience for every child and family involved.
